What Is Endodontics?
Endodontics is a specialized branch of dentistry recognized by the American Dental Association that focuses on diagnosing and treating problems involving the dental pulp, root canal system, and surrounding tissues of the tooth. Endodontic treatment is designed to save natural teeth that have been affected by infection, inflammation, trauma, decay, or fracture.
The visible part of the tooth above the gum line is called the crown, while the portion below the gums is known as the root. Inside the root is a small channel called the root canal, which contains soft tissue known as pulp, including nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. When bacteria enter the pulp due to deep decay, cracked teeth, dental trauma, or periodontal disease, the pulp can become infected or severely inflamed.
An endodontist is a root canal specialist trained to remove infected or damaged pulp, disinfect the root canal system, and preserve the natural tooth whenever possible. After successful root canal therapy, the tooth can continue to function normally once restored by your general or restorative dentist.
At Great Neck Endodontics, Dr. Peter Rybak provides advanced root canal treatment, endodontic retreatment, cracked tooth evaluation, apicoectomy procedures, and emergency endodontic care for patients throughout Great Neck, Manhasset, Roslyn, Bayside, Queens, Nassau County, and Long Island.
Are Dental X-Rays Safe?
Yes. At Great Neck Endodontics, we utilize advanced low-radiation digital radiography technology to obtain highly detailed diagnostic images while significantly reducing radiation exposure. Digital dental X-rays can reduce radiation levels by up to 90% compared to traditional dental X-ray systems.
Digital imaging allows for enhanced diagnosis, improved image quality, efficient record storage, and secure sharing of images with your referring dentist when necessary.
Infection Control and Sterilization
Patient safety is a top priority at Great Neck Endodontics. Our office follows strict infection control and sterilization protocols recommended by OSHA, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the American Dental Association.
We utilize advanced sterilization procedures, including autoclave sterilization and modern barrier protection techniques, to maintain a clean and safe treatment environment for every patient.
What Happens After Root Canal Treatment?
After your root canal treatment or endodontic procedure is completed, a report of your treatment will be provided to your restorative dentist. It is important to schedule a follow-up appointment with your dentist to complete the final restoration of the tooth, which may include a filling or crown to help protect and strengthen the tooth long-term.
Most patients experience little to no complications following routine root canal therapy or endodontic microsurgery. However, if questions or concerns arise after treatment, Great Neck Endodontics is available to assist you.
Advanced Endodontic Technology
Digital Radiography
Our office utilizes advanced digital X-ray technology to improve diagnostic accuracy while minimizing radiation exposure. Digital radiographs allow for enhanced image clarity and efficient communication with referring dentists.
Operating Microscopes and LED Illumination
Great Neck Endodontics also utilizes advanced operating microscopes with LED illumination and magnification technology. These microscopes allow Dr. Peter Rybak to visualize fine details inside the tooth that may not be visible with the naked eye, helping improve precision during root canal treatment and endodontic surgery.
Integrated microscope imaging technology also allows clinical findings to be documented and reviewed as part of your treatment process.
